Who are Construction Youth Trust?

Construction Youth Trust work in a place-based way across London and North Kent, creating local networks that support young people to journey into rewarding careers.

Through their work, the registered charity aims to broaden career horizons, challenge vocational stereotypes and raise the aspirations of young people, prioritising those most in need and facing the greatest barriers.

The Trust support young people to develop the necessary skills and discover opportunities that enable them to achieve their full career potential.

What do they do?

Social mobility is at the heart of the Trust’s work, and they prioritise supporting those young people from low-income backgrounds, most likely to miss out on opportunities or facing barriers to employment. They help young people to recognise their potential and discover opportunities that have never previously been presented to them.

The charity works in schools and local communities to talk to young people and show them what’s available within the construction industry in terms of training and job roles.

Why do they do it?

The work Construction Youth Trust undertakes supports its mission “to inspire and support young people to achieve their full career potential in the construction and built environment sector.” The Trust wants to support better social mobility so young people are given the helping hand they need.

Why are they important?

Without Construction Youth Trust, some young people might not reach their full potential or even realise the opportunities available to them. They work closely with local organisations, which allows them to access the hardest to reach young people, as well as in schools where young people are looking for opportunities after finishing education. They work to challenge stereotypes around the construction industry, showing there’s a role for everyone. The charity also connects employers to local upcoming talent.

Contextualised Curriculum Project

Funded by the CITB and delivered in partnership with London Regional Construction Training Group, the Contextualised Curriculum project aims to facilitate wider industry engagement in secondary schools (11–18-year-olds), raising the profile and desirability of careers in construction and the built environment. 

The suite of resources, developed and piloted by Construction Youth Trust, can be used by industry professionals and teachers to deliver engaging sessions in schools that take students’ learning and put it into real life scenarios to help them learn.
