Accessibility

This statement applies to content published on www.goconstruct.org domain.

This website is run by the Construction Industry Training Board. The CITB is committed to making its websites accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (no. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018. This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard and CITB are working hard to resolve these issues to ensure the website is fully complaint.

We aim for our website to be accessible to a wider range of people with disabilities, including blindness and low vision, deafness and hearing loss, learning disabilities, cognitive limitations, limited movement, speech disabilities, photosensitivity and any combinations of these. It is extremely important to CITB in making your web content more usable.

You should be able to:

  • Use most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
  • Navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • Zoom in up to 300% without problems such as the text spilling off the screen
  • Navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • Watch all video content with closed caption subtitles
  • Find good alternative text for all images used.

We have also tried to make the website text as simple as possible to understand.

How accessible is this website?

Parts of this website are not fully accessible. For example:

  • Some pages and document attachments are not clearly written
  • Some pages have poor colour contrast
  • Some heading elements are not consistent
  • Some buttons are not correctly identified
  • Some error messages are not clearly associated with form controls
  • Many documents are in PDF format and are not accessible.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

During a recent accessibility audit on the website, we have identified a list of issues of non-compliance on the website and are working to rectify these areas to make the website more accessible. For example;

  • Some design updates are required to meet the WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines. These are generally concerned with insufficient colour contrast, input, focus, border, and icon colours.
  • Some content updates are required to meet the WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines. These include ensuring that all images have meaningful 'alt' tags, that all links contain meaningful link text, nesting headings correctly, simplifying complex data tables, ensuring that all button/link text makes sense when read out of context.

We anticipate these changes to take up to six months to achieve and will update the accessibility statement once these areas are compliant.

How to request content in an accessible format

We periodically review web standards guidelines and improvements in the functionality offered by browsers to improve the accessibility of our website.

If you have difficulty in accessing the content of this site, please contact us and we will provide the information in an alternative format you need, for example, audio CD, braille, BSL or large print, accessible PDF.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was last reviewed in October 2020. This website was last tested on 28August 2020. CITB commissioned the company S8080 to carry out an accessibility audit on the website. The audit identified areas on the website that are not compliant and CITB are working to rectify these areas to ensure compliance with the regulations.
